If you have been around the Dahn Yoga websites and centers, you may have seen a lot of writing and talking about the brain. This may not seem strange considering that yoga is a mind and body practice. But maybe most yoga practices don’t talk about the brain specifically so much.
That’s where Dahn Yoga is unique. It recognizes the importance of the brain to the normal functioning of our body and to our overall happiness. It really boils down to the power of positive thinking and focus. If you focus on your body you will understand it more deeply and be more in touch with even its autonomic (i.e. automatic) functions. I know I’ve never understood myself or my body until I’d started Dahn Yoga, and I’ve been a pretty introspective person in my life. It reminds me of stories of yogis who are able to levitate their body or lower their heart rate to the point of almost being dead. Not that I or actually anyone in Dahn Yoga is trying to do that. But it works the same when I’m trying to be calm in a stressful situation or I’m trying to do something that I’ve never done before. I think its really about empowerment…knowing that you can control your thoughts, emotions, and bodily functions…without being an evil dictator over them ![]()
I enjoy the contrast of yogi and evil dictator, especially in this context…
thanks for the chuckle
