15 Bring your left foot forward next to your right foot.

17 As you raise your upper body, circle your arms out to each side and bring your palms together overhead.

Your upper arms should be next to your ears.

18 Stretch up and back to move into Standing Back Bend.

Beginner Practice 1 is a well-rounded practice for beginners that works your entire body. This practice moves your spine in all directions — stretching your spine forward and backward, as well as twisting your spine.

Before beginning the practice, take a few minutes to center yourself and become aware of your breathing. You should also perform a warm-up sequence, such as Seated Warm-Up Sequence shown on page 252, before you start Beginner Practice 1.
