ISHTA Yoga The Integrated Science of Yoga

ISHTA is an acronym for the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda—a nomenclature coined by Alan Finger, the innovator of ISHTA Yoga. This approach to yoga was initially taught at Yoga Zone studios. Beginning in 2001, ISHTA Yoga has been taught at Be Yoga studios, located in New York City, and throughout the country by teachers trained in this style of yoga.

Alan Finger, who was born in South Africa, learned yoga from his father. He has been studying and practicing yoga for more than 40 years. His ISHTA style of practice is both physical and spiritual, and is tailored to meet each individual's need. ISHTA Yoga combines mantra recitation, kriya ("cleansing" practices), meditation, asanas, and pranayama. As appropriate, asana practice can be vigorous, with Ashtanga-style jump-backs.
