When you have mastered shambhavi mudra with the eyes open you can try the same practice with the eyes closed. It is a more powerful practice, for the awareness is less likely to be externalized. It is an excellent method of introspection. The only drawback is that it is far easier to relax the eyes, stop doing shambhavi mudra and not realize it.
